| About Winster and the Peak District
The historic lead-mining village of Winster sits in the scenic heart of the Peak National Park, the White Peaks, where the limestone rock formations and steep-sided dales make up the landscape. |
|
This landscape offers a number of outdoor activities including, walking, rock climbing, golfing, canoeing, sailing, caving and cycling, with popular places such as Matlock Bath, the Tissington Trail, Carsington Water and Dovedale only a brief drive away.
Likewise, the picturesque town of Bakewell and the stately homes of Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are close at hand. Alton Towers, Gulliver's Kingdom and the Cable Cars are also within easy reach.
The picturesque village of Winster is a much sought after holiday destination. It hosts an historic Market Hall, churches, a village shop, Post Office and two excellent pubs - all within easy walking distance of the house.
Winster hosts its
annual Wakes week in June, with different activities daily throughout the week
culminating with a carnival and street party on Saturday when the Winster Morris
Dancers are a particular attraction.
For one weekend in July the Secret Gardens of Winster are open to
the general public. Discover the
beauty and enchantment of these wonderful hidden
gardens.
